Valentine’s Day gets a lot of buzz about love for others, but this year I’ve been sitting with a different kind of love: the kind you extend to yourself when you’re working on your mindset. Today’s theme is one of my favorites (and biggest lifelong practices): humble confidence – that steady middle ground between shrinking and showboating.
Mindset is 80% of success. Let’s build the kind that actually holds under pressure.
A lot of us (especially women) were taught a version of “humility” that’s really just self-doubt in disguise. Let’s clear that out:
Growth does not happen where self-deprecation lives.
True humility is grounded, honest, and quietly powerful:
When someone offers genuine praise, practice saying:
“Thank you. That means a lot.”
Then look for evidence it might be true. Acceptance builds grounded confidence.
A helpful tell: if you’re listing wins to connect and teach, you’ll reference lessons, growth, or others’ contributions. If you’re listing wins to perform worthiness, it lands… icky.
Humble confidence: I am not more than anyone, and I am not less than anyone.
It’s walking into a room content in your skin – no puffing up, no shrinking, just presence.
I love Brené Brown’s self-check:
“Don’t puff up. Don’t shrink. Stay in your sacred space.”
High-stakes moments magnify insecurity in both directions (self-doubt or ego). Pre-load calm:
If all you had today was 10% and you gave that 10%, you gave 100% of what you had.
Permission to be human. Consistency beats perfection.
Pick one of these and do it every day for seven days:
Then note how your presence shifts: calmer, clearer, more you.
Bottom line: Humble confidence isn’t a personality trait, it’s a practice. Own your strengths. Tell the truth about your edges. Learn out loud. And stay in that sacred middle where presence > performance.
You don’t have to be the loudest in the room to be the most powerful. Show up as you.
