There’s something about spring that always makes me reflective. Maybe it’s the sense of renewal or the reminder that fresh starts are always possible. But lately, I’ve been talking with a lot of women who are running on empty. The word that keeps coming up? Burnout.
If you’ve ever found yourself pushing and pushing (checking every box, doing all the “right” things) only to feel like you’ve lost the spark that once fueled you, you’re not alone. Burnout doesn’t just happen because you’re tired. It happens when you’ve been pouring out more than you’ve been pouring back in.
Let’s talk about what burnout actually is, why it happens, and how you can reset.
Burnout is that emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion that hits when your output outweighs your input. You start to feel drained, numb, or irritable. The things that used to bring you joy suddenly feel heavy.
You might be sleeping, but you still wake up exhausted. You might be checking things off your list, but they don’t feel fulfilling anymore. You might even start asking yourself, “What’s the point?”
For pageant women, burnout can show up as dreading mock interviews or appearances, feeling guilty for resting, comparing yourself more than usual, or losing the spark behind your “why.” You’re doing everything you’re supposed to, but it doesn’t feel good anymore.
Here’s the truth: burnout doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means your body and your mind are asking for rest.
Most of us who compete, lead, or chase big goals are high achievers. We’re used to giving 110%. But perfectionism can become a trap; one that tells us that rest is weakness and success is only earned through constant motion.
We also compare ourselves to others who seem to have it “all together.” We build these pedestals in our minds and push harder to meet impossible standards that no one else is even asking of us.
Burnout isn’t a lack of motivation, it’s the result of caring deeply and giving endlessly without recharging.
When you ignore burnout, you disconnect from your joy, your purpose, and your authenticity; all of which are the core of what makes you magnetic on and off the stage. Judges (and people) don’t connect with perfection; they connect with your realness, your heart, your story.
If you want to show up as the kind of titleholder who inspires, leads, and connects, you have to take care of yourself along the way. Rest isn’t a reward. It’s a requirement.
Getting out of burnout doesn’t mean snapping your fingers and pretending everything’s fine. It’s about a gentle reset. Think of it as slowly standing up after you’ve been dizzy. You don’t rush it, you breathe through it.
Here’s what that can look like:
Remember: burnout is feedback. It’s your body saying, “I need care.”
There’s no finish line. You’re not running out of time. The purpose of your journey isn’t to constantly achieve. It’s to grow, to learn, and to live fully along the way.
You bring value simply by being you. The crown, the checklist, the goals – they’re all beautiful pursuits, but they don’t define your worth.
Rest is part of the prep. It’s how you come back stronger, clearer, and more aligned with your purpose.
So if you’re feeling drained, please know this: burnout doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for this. It means you’ve been giving your all. It’s time to give some of that care back to yourself.
