Let’s talk about something that I wish someone had told me earlier in my pageant journey: You don’t have to do everything. But you do have to do the right things.
Pageant prep can feel like juggling 15 spinning plates at once. You’re trying to balance paperwork, wardrobe, interviews, platforms, glam, fitness, community work—and somehow also stay sane while doing it. If you’re nodding along like, “Yep, that’s me,” just know you’re not alone. I’ve been there. Every client I work with has been there.
But the truth is, not everything is equally important. Some things will make it for you, and others—well, they won’t necessarily win it, but they can break it if they’re not handled intentionally. That’s what I want to break down today: how to prioritize your prep in a way that feels aligned, doable, and rooted in who you are.
Let’s get this out of the way early: mindset isn’t just another thing on the checklist. Mindset is the thing that influences everything else.
From your ability to answer interview questions confidently to how you carry yourself on stage, to how you bounce back from mistakes—your mindset is at the core. That’s why at Fearlessly Authentic Coaching, it’s always our starting point.
If you’re doing everything right but you still feel off? Check your mindset. If you’re not having fun anymore? Check your mindset. If you’re obsessing over tiny details that are draining your energy? Yep—mindset again.
Let’s talk about your top priorities. These are the three non-negotiables—the things that, if built well, can change your entire competition experience.
You can have the best dress, the coolest talent, and the most polished look—but if you can’t connect with your judges or your audience, you’re going to fall flat. Strong communication is about:
It’s not about memorizing answers. It’s about sharing who you are in a way that’s real and resonant.
If you don’t know why you’re competing—or what you plan to do if you win—you’re missing the point. Every titleholder is ultimately stepping into a job, and you need a game plan:
Spoiler alert: This is where you set yourself apart.
If you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, spiraling over a misstep, or chasing perfection, you’re going to burn out. You need to be able to:
If you lose sight of the fun, you lose the joy that makes you magnetic.
Now for the other side of the coin. These elements aren’t the reason someone wins, but when they’re neglected or misaligned, they can hurt you.
Yes, you should feel confident in what you wear. No, it doesn’t have to be designer. What matters most is that your wardrobe reflects your personal style, aligns with the job of the titleholder, and is tailored well. You can’t communicate effectively if you’re fidgeting with a strap or doubting your look.
Talent can absolutely wow a panel—but it won’t carry you across the finish line alone. You need to enjoy it, own it, and let it reflect your personality or story. But it’s one piece of the puzzle—not the whole thing.
This is a nonverbal piece that speaks volumes. The way you walk into a room, carry yourself on stage, and own your space matters. It communicates confidence before you even speak. And that starts with liking how you feel in your skin.
Start with you.
☑️ Make a list of your inner qualities
☑️ Reconnect with your ‘why’
☑️ Get clear on your mission and your message
☑️ Practice speaking about it out loud
☑️ Build a routine that includes rest and job
☑️ Let go of the idea that you have to be perfect to be powerful
And if all of that feels overwhelming? That’s where I come in. My coaching isn’t about giving you all the answers—it’s about helping you build the tools, mindset, and clarity to find them within yourself.
Because your growth, your confidence, your joy?
That’s what changes everything.
